Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is unclear and the US has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
